Boat Rental

During the summer months, the Student Co-op provides boats for rent on the lake at Yellow Creek State Park, located approximately 12 miles from campus.

This offers I-Card holders an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing day on the 720 acre lake or at the beach, as the park includes an 800-foot beach with a concession stand, changing house and outdoor showers.

Yellow Creek State Park & Lake, which covers more than 3,140 acres, is located in Indiana County along what was known as the Kittanning Path, one of the first “highways” in Pennsylvania. This trail was used by the Delaware and Shawnee nations and by early settlers.

Yellow Creek State Park Boat Rental Rates

Campus Recreation has an agreement with Yellow Creek State Park officials to provide IUP valid I-Card holders a 5% discount on boat rentals at the beautiful 720 acre lake.

YELLOW CREEK STATE PARK BOAT RENTAL RULES

  • NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES PERMITTED. We reserve the right to inspect all coolers.
  • PA state law requires that all children under the age of 12 and non-swimmers must wear a PFD (personal flotation device, aka lifejacket) at all times. We STRONGLY recommend that all others wear them as well.
  • Persons operating pedal boats, kayaks, windsurfers, sailboats and canoes will be required to wear a PFD.
  • Lifejackets (PFD’s) must be readily available to all those not wearing one.
  • All persons should be seated at all times when the boat is underway.
  • No horseplay or reckless behavior will be tolerated on boats.
  • Use caution while operating a boat. Sailboats and non-motorized boats generally have the right of way. Steer clear of them whenever possible.
  • To rent a boat, one responsible person must be at least:
    • 10 years of age to rent a pedal boat or kayak
    • 12 years of age to rent a canoe
    • 16 years of age to rent a motor boat
    • 21 years of age to rent a pontoon boat

Yellow Creek Park Camping Cottages & Yurts

Camping Cottages:

  • Six 13’ by 15’ cottages are along the lakeshore near McFeaters Cove
  • Each cottage sleeps five people in bunk beds
  • Cottages have wooden floors, windows, porch, picnic table, fire ring, and electric lights and outlets
  • Restrooms are nearby
  • Dogs are permitted in cottages 1 and 2 for a fee

Yurts:

  • These round, canvas and wood walled tents have a wooden floor and deck and sleep five people in bunk beds
  • Yurts have a cooking stove, refrigerator, microwave oven, countertop, table, chairs, electric heat and outlets, fire ring and picnic table
  • Restrooms are nearby

  • Depart Pratt Dr toward School St
  • Turn right onto School St
  • Turn right onto PA-954 / S 6th St
  • Turn left onto US-422 East Highway and follow signs
  • Turn right onto PA-259, follow Park signs
  • Then you have reached your destination
