4th Meeting of the Fourth
Student Government Association
October 6, 2008
8:15 pm
Susquehanna Room
I. Meeting was called to order at 8:15 pm
II. Guest Speaker- Bill Montgomery, Public Safety
A) Bill Montgomery wanted SGA to know about the new surveillance camera system. Since Virginia Tech, there have been talks of cameras to be across campus. The actual locations of these cameras are not yet known, but departments can also ask public safety to put in a camera system in their offices.
III. President’s Report- Jess Carson
A) There is an Indiana Borough meeting on Thursday 10/9 at 7:00pm. Indiana Borough will be discussing the borough and its relation with IUP.
B) The State Board of Education can have students in the Board. IUP is looking to nominate a sophomore or junior with at least a 2.5 GPA. If you are interested, email Jess at wbtm@iup.edu.
C) The ‘Big Event’ is something that SGA done is something that SGA has done in the past. It is a community service activity that will be held during April of 2009. If you have any ideas about the ‘Big Event’ email Jess
D) October 25th is ‘Make a Difference Day.’
E) The ‘PA Stay Warm’ initiative is a fundraiser in order to donate or make blankets, coats, etc. to needy families in the area. We need help in this initiative. If you are interested, email Jess.
F) All members of SGA are invited to the President-Student Advisory Network (PSAN). There are monthly meetings. This month, we will be meeting in the Crimson Events Center, which is connected to Folger Dining Hall. It will be from 11:30-1:00 on Monday October 13th. Lunch will be provided.
G) On Monday October 13th from 4:30 to 5:30pm, there will be a forum with Dr. Atwater before the Six O’Clock Series.
H) Please talk to you friends, fellow IUP students about their concerns and what they want SGA to do on campus and bring your ideas to meetings or email Jess your ideas.
IV. Vice President’s Report- Josh Moss
A) The SGA website is in the process of being updated. The site is www.coop.iup.edu/SGA. The PR committee is in charge, along with Josh of reworking the site. If you are interested in helping, email Josh at j.j.moss@iup.edu.
B) Every Senator is required to email Josh their office hours for the week.
C) If you are not available to attend a meeting, please get an excused absence from the Rules Committee.
D) Tuesday October 7th is the next Senate Meeting at 3:30pm in Eberly Auditorium.
V. Rules Chair Report- Ray Edwards
A) Two Constitution were approved since the last meeting.
B) The Rules Committee is looking to set a meeting day out of the week in order to meet in a large group to look over Constitutions.
C) Ray will let Josh Moss know if there are any constitutions that need to be examined. Josh will notify all members.
D) Isis Lester is suspended from SGA for not fulfilling her roles as a senator and the Elections Committee chair.
E) Please get an excuse if you can not make it to a meeting.
VI. Secretary’s Report- Sarah Hogue
A) Expect the minutes by Tuesday evening
VII. Treasurer’s Report- Mike Stutzman
A) There was a $700 deduction from the budget for the 4th place homecoming float prize, along with a $500 deduction from the budget for our dues, and roughly a $300 deduction in the budget for traveling costs since the last meeting. The budget is now $11,086.47.
VIII. Advisor’s Report- Sam Mucken
A) Sam hioes to see us all the UPG Leadership conference.
IX. Elections Committee- Josh Moss
A) If anyone is interested in being the elections Committee Chairperson, email Josh.
B) The Elections Committee counted all the votes for Homecoming King and Queen
C) The job of the Elections chair is to see that things run smoothly with the ballots and that signature petitions are taken care of during the Spring elections for SGA senators and executives. The Chair also oversees all elections
X. Out Reach Report- Alyssa Stiles
A) Out Reach Committee is making a survey to ask IUP students their feelings about SGA and future activities of SGA. The OR committee hopes to make a forum with the President possibly on Nov. 15th.
XI. Public Relations Report- Kierstin Bolton was not present to give this report
XII. University Relations Report- Amber Grady was not present to give this report
XIII. Student Trustee’s Report- Chad Buckwalter was not present to give this report
XIV. IUP University Senate Vice Chair’s report- Steve Fisher
A) There is a Senate meeting on Tuesday 10/7 at 3:30pm in Eberly Auditorium.
XV. New Business-Jess Carson
A) If you would like to be a member of SGA, fill out the form in the SGA office before you are sworn in.
XVI. Good of the Order Announcements
A) Ray is working on an article about what IUP students love and hate about campus. If you have any ideas about how this survey could take place and/or you would like to comment about this matter, email ray at yqzn@iup.edu.
XVII. Adjournment
A) Move to adjourn. The motion was seconded and passed.
B) Meeting adjourned at approximately 9:30 pm
