3rd Meeting of the Fourth
Student Government Association
September 22, 2008
8:15 pm
Susquehanna Room
I. Meeting called to order at 8:20 pm
II. Roll call
III. Approval of the Minutes- The minutes were approved.
IV. President’s Report- Jessica Carson
a) The motion to give $700 to the fourth place float winner in the Homecoming Parade was made, seconded and passed.
b) There is a meeting with all the presidents including Jessica this Saturday morning to discuss the PA smoke ban.
c) We want SGA to be more active this year to help our fellow students. Talk to classmates to see what their concerns are and ask them what they want us to do about it. Bring these ideas with you to the next meeting.
d) The next meeting is on October 6th.
e) Dr. Atwater’s next forum is on September 29th from 4:30 to 5:30pm. This is a great time to talk to the President of the University regarding issues that affect students. Not quite sure of the l ocation, but he sends an email to all students before the forum stating where it will be.
f) Just a reminder that our new Chancellor will be at IUP on October 8th and 9th for an ice cream social.
V. Vice-President’s Report- Josh Moss
a) There are still seats open in some of the committees. If anyone is interested contact Josh at j.j.moss@iup.edu
b) SGA has a website that PR committee chairwoman Kierstin
Bolton will be working on updating. If anyone would like to help, please
email Josh.
c) If you are interested on being on the elections committee,
contact Josh. Homecoming voting ends Wednesday at midnight and there will
be a meeting later this week for elections committee.
d) Every SGA member is required to work at least one office hour a week. This does not mean that you have to physically be in the office, but you must be working on SGA business for at least one hour. Please email your hours to Josh every week.
e) If you need to get into the office, email Josh the day before you need in or call him at
484-336-4299, so he can get you the key.
VI. Rules Chair’s Report- Ray Edwards
a) The Rules Chair has the duty to expel or suspend any member
Suspension will occur only if you do not fulfill your duties, so just don’t let it happen.
b) Ray will be getting a copy of the roll call after every meeting so please come.
c) If you miss two consecutive meetings or any three meetings in the semester, it is grounds for suspension.
d) If you are interested, you can get the SGA bylaws from Ray and also the SGA constitution is available.
e) There have been three constitutions approved by Ray with the help of Kierstin Bolton since our last meeting.
VII. Secretary’s Report- Sarah Hogue
a) The minutes will be emailed out by at latest Wednesday. Thank you for your patience.
VIII. Treasurer’s Report- Mike Stutzman
a) The SGA budget is currently $12,651.47 minus the $700 for the Homecoming parade.
IX. Advisor’s Report- Kate Linder
a) Kate is the Director of the Center for Student Life
b) There may be a few times in the semester that she will not be in attendance to the meeting, but Sam Mucken will fill in for her
c) Kate’s role as advisor of SGA is to provide us the information necessary and to help us get what we need to get done.
d) Dr. Atwater is only doing the forum three more times this semester.
X. Elections Report- Isis Lester was not present to report. Please see Vice President’s report
XI. Outreach Report- Alyssa Stiles
a) If you are interested in helping on the outreach committee, please contact Alyssa at A.M.Stiles@iup.edu.
XII. Public Relations Report- Kierstin Bolton
a) The team is discussing several ways to advertise
b) From 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Wednesday October 1, we will be chalking.
c) There will be a meeting in late October for a networking night.
XIII. University Relations Report- Amber Grady
a) If you want to join contact Amber at A.N.Grady@iup.edu. The University Relations committee is looking to set up meetings.
XIV. Trustee’s Report- Chad Buckwalter was not present to report. Jess Carson gave the Trustee’s report
a) There was a trustee meeting on Thursday and a public meeting Friday. If any are interested in the meeting, you will find a docket of the meeting in the SGA office.
XV. IUP Senate Vice-Chair’s Report- Stephen Fisher
a) The University Senate is proposing a change in the bylaws from the Rules Committee for the Non-Credit instruction committee to be voted on at the next meeting of the University Senate. This change was made necessary by the re-structuring of the Continuing Education program. The next Senate meeting will be on October 7th at 3:30 pm in Beard Auditorium.
XVI. A motion to place ‘New Business’ of approving new members at the end of the meeting was made, seconded and passed.
XVII. New Business
a) RAINN Day is an annual campaign to stop sexual assault on college campuses. If you would like to get involved or have any questions email Jess Carson at wbtm@iup.edu.
b) The alcohol policy forward that was sent out via email is still in effect through homecoming weekend.
XVIII. Good of the Order/Announcements
a) Craig Faish has a wrestling match on Saturday. If you are interested in tickets, email him at frvk@iup.edu
b) There is a Bacchus bingo night on October 11th. If you have any questions please email Jessica Carson.
c) James Carville and Mary Matalin are coming to IUP on October 1st at 7:00 pm in Fisher Auditorium.
d) Alyssa Stiles is starting a leadership club revolving around women’s issues. If anyone is interested, contact her.
