About the IUP S.G.A.

The Student Government Association is the recognized voice of the students at IUP.  It is authorized by Pennsylvania Act 188 passed in 1982 by the legislature of the Commonwealth of PA to be the officially recognized representative body of the student population of IUP.  It is an organization made up of students elected at the end of the spring semester.  It is a bicameral congress, made up of the SGA Representatives and the Senate.  Senators are members of the University Senate which is comprised of faculty, administration, and students.
Student concerns and complaints should be brought to the Student Government Association. It is our duty as a leadership organization to take any and all reasonable and feasible action on those issues raised by IUP students.
SGA participates in various events and fundraisers, as well as advising the administration on student concerns and approving the campus-wide budget plans.
A major function of SGA is to represent students in committees of the Coop. One of these committees is the Finance Committee, which approves all student organization budgets, including that of the SGA. The most recent budget report available from the Coop Finance Committee is
2006-2007, and can be found at the following address:
http://www.coop.iup.edu/board/2006-2007%20Student%20Fund%20Budget%20Report.pdf
The budget approved by the Coop comes from the Student Activity Fee, which can be found on this semester's tuition bill. The total budget typically is in the range of three to six million dollars ($3,000,000-$6,000,000). For the 2006-2007 budget, linked above, the amount was $5.9 million.
