S.G.A. Officers & Members

President | Jessica Carson

Jessica is currently a senior at IUP fulfilling a dual major in Anthropology and Sociology as well as a minor in Asian Studies. During her time at IUP, Jessica has furthered her world curiosity by becoming proficient in Mandarin and Arabic, and even traveling to the United Arab Emirates and China in 2007 and 2008. Within the near future Jessica will be attending graduate school for a Masters in Public Health maintaining her interest in Women and Children's health as well as Near Eastern Studies. Since Jessica's freshman year she has been a strong activist in the IUP and Indiana community working in various areas from the promotion of the arts, civil liberties, advocacy, and ending sexual violence. Before Jessica became the President of the SGA, she worked for a year as its Public Relations Chairperson. Beyond her duties as President, Jessica was appointed through the Pennsylvania state legislature onto the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors. Her term as President of the SGA and her position on the PASSHE Board of Governors will end this April 2009.

Vice-President | Joshua Moss

Josh is a Senior, Psychology major, Applied Statistics minor. He is also studying Pre-Medicine, and hopes to go on to a career in Brain Surgery or Neuroscience after graduating in May 2009. Outside of class Josh enjoys sports, and is an avid (recreational) ultimate frisbee player, a backyard football player, and an aspiring amateur triathlete. Josh also has the unique ability to perform feats of strength and circus acts. Josh has been involved in SGA for 2 ½ semesters, initially as a Senator, and later as the Elections Committee and Rules Committee Chairperson. He is now serving a one-year term as Vice President, which will end in April 2009.

Rules Chair | Ray Edwards

Ray is a second year International Business and Economics Double major in the Eberly College of Business, Music minor. He plays the piano, organ, and sings in several choral groups. He would love to combine his passion for music with business in a career in the music industry. Outside of class Ray is a runner and cyclist. He aspires to complete a marathon and century ride this year.

He is a huge UNC Tarheels basketball fan. Ray also has the knack for Italian food, culture, and language. He enjoys traveling, especially to Italy. Ray loves all things culinary and will reincarnate as an Iron Chef. Ray has been involved in SGA for 1 ½ semesters, initially as a Senator. He is now serving a one year term as Rules Committee Chairperson which will end in April 2009.

Treasurer | Michael Kane

19 years old

Freshmen Political Science / Pre-Law

Michael graduated with Honors from Huntingdon Area High School in 2008. He Was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. We was also a member of Huntingdon Area High School Marching Band for six years and held leadership roles for three of those years.

Public Relations Chair | Rachel DeStefano

Rachel considers herself a motivated individual who wants to see more active students on campus! She prefers listening to analog (mostly vinyl) instead of digital music because of its crackle and feeling of nostalgia. Rachel is somewhat of an environmentalist (but not the kind who makes things worse!). If you have any issues about anything on campus, please feel free to e-mail her. (sgmn@iup.edu) We will  have an "Online Concerns Blog" set up shortly where you can discuss topics of concern about IUP! Rachel's favorite hobby is catching salamanders and she hopes to be a high school biology teacher one day. Until then, she will continue to strive for change on campus and in the community. Elections Chair | Joshua Hughes

Josh is a Sophomore, Business Management major from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He is member of the Robert E. Cook Honors College as well as the Honors Business Program. Along with SGA, Josh is an IUP Ambassador and an officer in the Management Association. He enjoys playing soccer and ultimate frisbee as well as participating in outdoor activities with his friends. Along with sports, Josh enjoys listening to and playing music, and generally has a moderate level of success playing the drums and piano. He has been involved in SGA since the middle of last semester and hopes to continue his involvement in SGA for the rest of his time at IUP. After which, he would like to pursue a career in the business world.

Outreach Chair | Alyssa Stiles

Alyssa Stiles is a sophomore, Pre-Dentistry major from Indiana, PA. She aspires to eventually become an orthodontist in her own practice called "Smile With Stiles Orthodontics." She has made the most out of her time at IUP as an active member and leader in the several organizations, including greek organizations, honor societies, and community service organizations. She was also a co-creator of the IUP ATHENA Club. Because of her active involvement with campus activities and several different student and community organizations, Alyssa has found a perfect fit as the IUP SGA Outreach Chair!
